PROJECT SUMMARY - CONVERSION OF INCLINED WIRE OPEN HEADBOX TO HYDRAULIC HEADBOX

To improve sheet formation control and increase production speeds, Glens Falls Interweb, Inc. converted an existing inclined wire open headbox to a hydraulic headbox.

The conversion involved the removal of the top structure of the existing headbox and replacement with new side pond plates and articulating roof section. The articulating roof section allows for control of stock velocities through the forming zone. Digital readouts were supplied to indicate heel and slice positioning.

Water box seals were added to the headbox to improve sheet edge quality. The new upper section can be pivoted open to allow access for internal cleaning and maintenance.

GFI provided installation supervision, start-up assistance, and a follow up process review for the headbox conversion project.
